Washington Main Street

HDSA is a proud member of the Washington State Main Street Program, a statewide economic development and historic preservation program that helps communities revitalize their downtown and neighborhood commercial districts. It focuses on strengthening local economies while preserving historic character and community identity.
The Main Street Approach

The program uses the Main Street Four-Point Approach®, a nationally recognized framework for downtown revitalization:
-
Outreach– building strong partnerships, volunteers, and leadership.
-
Promotion – marketing downtown and hosting events to attract visitors.
-
Design – improving the physical appearance of the district (historic buildings, streetscapes, signage).
-
Economic Vitality (Economic Restructuring) – supporting existing businesses and attracting new ones.
This approach focuses on using local assets—historic buildings, local businesses, culture, and community pride—to drive economic development.
